Get to know better … David Marquez

One of the Spanish players who are having more impact lately is the Spaniard David Marquez , double champion Spain snooker in 2011 and 2012. We’ve interviewed Poolmania to that you can know better.

– is your love for billiards Since when?

From one day in November 1998 when a good friend, Angel. He calls me and tells me; You ‘re not going to believe where I am, I am on Paseo Delicias on the sixth floor playing pool in a beautiful room. I answer: what are you telling me? How to sixth – floor? It turns out that was the room where they have left the best players in Madrid. Upon entering the door I said verbatim; “Angel’s  ‘ve screwed up” . And so, since then we have not stopped playing pool.

– What do you most passionate about this sport?

All. The pool has made me mature mentally and especially as a person, I owe a lot to this sport, which I can say that has made me what I am. Beyond the pool I can say that with him, I’ve known all over Spain and many countries in Europe where I have enriched from different cultures and great experiences.

– What are the ways you practice?

I currently focused more on Snooker mode, but from the beginning I did nothing but play pool. Both mode 8, as the ball 9.

– What brand taco you usually play? Would you would you change to another?

I started playing with a taco Bear series limited but I stole it and had to buy another. I currently play a limited and remove Pechauer Predator series BK1. And if I have to change, I have in my locker, from my point of view, the best taco in the world; Robinson has one hit and dramatic sound.

– How often do you play every week? Do you think it is enough  to improve your game?

I usually go every day to my club to practice, everyone has to be aware of the level you have and you want to achieve.

– What club you play normally? Do you think it is well  conditioned for playing pool?

I am lucky to be part of one of the best club in Spain, if not the world, Eddie Felson Billiard Club. Undoubtedly provides all the conditions to develop and improve the sport.

– What do you think they should do billiard clubs to attract more  players?

Today it is one of the most complicated questions that can be done in the world of snooker, I do not think they can do much because there are not many players today and are closing high typical rooms Madrid.

– What has been your best game or tournament?

I do not know what to say, there have been so many that if I have to decantarme for some say that one of them was the Championship of Spain Selections 2005 when we proclaim with Madrid Champions Spain. Euroutour also in Germany when I played with the number 2 ranking by Imran Majid and was then 9-8 for him. And of course, emphasize the two Spain Championships Snooker 2011 and 2012, where the final games were intense and very hard.

– Have you always had confidence in your game or, on the contrary, we have  entered moments of doubt?

The pool is what you have, it’s such a mental game than good by contrast or by your mood and personal status can create doubt you sometimes. Always try to have confidence in yourself and in your game but not easy. A pool table is the closest thing to a psychologist because it shows you at all times as you are inside, if you are sad or happy, if you have problems or you’re happy. All this greatly influences your game and can make it a great time playing pool or otherwise a nightmare.

– Have you had the opportunity to compete outside Spain?

Luckily if I was competing for nearly two years in the Eurotour with the best in Europe. And by winning the Snooker Championship in Spain this year in Latvia I have been competing in the European Championships Amateur.

– What is the player that you look to try to improve your game?

The truth is that I’ve never noticed a particular player, since I started’ve always tried to learn and capture the best of each.

– Tell us a story that has happened playing pool

One day I was playing a tournament and finish a game, that really played pretty well, I is the mother of the opposing player who had won and says: ” No wonder you’ve won, you’ve had throughout the game the white lucky you will be placed well for the next ball “ .

– How do you see the health of the sport in Spain today?

Unfortunately very bad, we have no official competitions both Pool and Snooker. The change of president of the Spanish Federation has made this less obviously paralyzed all the Carambola.

– Why do you think has lowered the participation of players in  the national tournaments?

There are several reasons, one of them is the crisis going on our country and the problem of work in Spain. As not go free and all paid not everyone can afford a national tournament. Between registration, hotel, meals and trip you can go for about 400 euros and today not everyone can afford. Another reason is the little money given regarding the prize money they raise in inscripciones- is shameful that if you get, for example, 3rd in Spain you get only 300 euros have not even cover expenses.

– Where do you think you can be the solution?

I think the solution would be to motivate players with good competitions and great prizes. To facilitate participation in each of them so that everyone can participate. All this motivation has to come from the top, so I’d like you to spec people who amass the sport and each of the modalities covering our Spanish Federation. The problem is that those who are just love one and it is neither the Pool or snooker.

– Why do you think that in Spain the pool is not a sport  attractive to the media?

What I see in Spain is that everything other than football is not attractive to the media. It’s funny to hear in television news when they say we go now with sports and pulling the entire section is talking about football and just seconds in another sport. At least today they are throwing pretty Snooker on Eurosport that’s something.

– What would you say to young people so that he was encouraged to practice?

Who come to a billiards room and truly know the sport, because the pool is much more than putting little balls into holes while sipping a beer or drink in a bar. The pool is much nicer and complex than people imagine, until you do not travel deeper in this world do not realize what it is. Everyone I invite you to pass by Eddie Felson Club and discover this wonderful sport.

– Is there anything you’d like to add ..

Nothing more, thank you for this interview and Poolmania say you’re doing a good job.

David Marquez thank you very much for giving their time for the interview.
